Social Communication Groups
Our current social communication groups are based on the Social Thinking Methodology, by Michelle Garcia Winner, and are tailored to children ages 4-6 who would benefit from support to:
Understand and use non-verbal communication
Establish attention and use whole body listening
Monitor the body language of self and others
Initiate and maintain a conversation
Advocate for oneself
Take another person’s perspective
Develop executive functioning for social success
Pragmatic Pals: Level 1
This six week group is designed to help establish foundational social competencies and covers the following concepts: thinking thoughts and feeling feelings, the group plan, thinking with your eyes, body in the group, and whole body listening.
Next session dates: Wednesdays from 5:45-6:45- April 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13
Pragmatic Pals: Level 2
This six week group is designed to build on the core concepts taught in level one and introduce executive functioning and problem solving concepts including: hidden rules and expected and unexpected behaviour, making a smart guess, flexible versus stuck thinking, matching the size of the problem to the size of the reaction, and sharing an imagination.
Next session dates: Wednesdays from 5:45-6:45- May 20, 27, June 3, 10, 17, 24
Assessment: One 30 minute Speech-Language Pathology Assessment to set inidividual learning goals
Treatment: Six 60 minute group therapy sessions, facilitated by a Speech-Language Pathologist
Space is limited to 6 participants. Participation fee: $600 (no refunds for missed sessions will be provided). Payment is due in full at the time of registration. Receipts will be provided at the end of each session that parents can submit to insurance for reimbursement, as applicable.
